Welcome the Wisdom of Winter

Winter is often the most hated season of the year.

Lacking the hope of Spring, the wa
rm sunshine of summer, and the crisp beauty of Autumn, Winters cold days and harsh nights have often been thought of as  something to simply endure. To tolerate. To survive.

Through an archetypal lens, Winter is represented by the Spirit of the Crone.
The wise old woman who has lived past her season of fertility and has transitioned into her final season of barrenness.

And just like the Winter, the aging Crone is too often regarded in modern culture as a burden. Something to endure, To tolerate by a society that does not see value where there is no fertility or productive function.

In a society that has long glorified the Maiden in her youth, the Mother in her nurture and function, and the Enchantress as the whore, the appreciation and the understanding of the importance of the Crone has been lost on us.

In the menstrual cycle, this same archetype is represented by the time of bleeding.

Yet, in a Solar world that makes no room for the cycles of lunar wisdom, no concessions are made for the wisdom of the body and the sacred time of shedding and stillness.

In every which way, the world at large has taught us to ignore, to override, to avoid and escape, to cast aside, and devalue the energy and wisdom of the Crone.

THE CRONE AND HER WISDOM ARE CALLING

The ignorance of the wisdom of Mother Nature and the cycles and seasons of life, has been inherently damaging to those who bleed, to the social value, understanding, and health of women, and to the health and richness of our culture and the world at large that has been denying and throwing away a vital part of the lifeblood of our society.

When women feel ashamed of their bodies and of growing old...

When we overemphasize the value of youth and beauty...

When we stop listening to the wisdom of our bodies and our aging...

When we deny ourselves the rite of eldership and the knowledge of the sage...

We become a society and a people obsessed with production, proving, and material gains.

We become a society obsessed with youth and beauty.

We forget to learn from the past.

We forget to honor where we have been.

We forget that there is more to life than sex, money, and success.

And when Winter comes and old age arrives, as it always, inevitably does, we are left empty, alone, and forgotten.
